Do All-on-4® Dental Implants Really Look and Feel Like Real Teeth

Replacing all your upper or lower teeth is a big decision — and a big investment. If you’re looking for a fixed and long-lasting alternative to dentures, All-on-4® dental implants might be the solution. Not only do they offer improved stability, but they’re designed to look, feel and function like natural teeth.
One of the most common questions we hear is: Do they really feel like the real thing?
While no prosthetic can perfectly mimic natural teeth, All-on-4® comes very close — especially in terms of comfort, appearance and function.
Read this guide to find out what to expect from All-on-4® dental implants and get in touch with our dentists in Perth to discuss your own smile options.
What to Expect After All-on-4® Surgery
Healing Time
Because All-on-4® surgery is minimally invasive, most patients can return to normal activities within a few days. Unlike traditional implants, there’s no lengthy waiting period for the implants to bond with the jawbone — we attach your new teeth to implants within five days of surgery.
Any swelling or discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. The type of sedation you choose can also affect your recovery time If you’ve had additional procedures like multiple extractions or bone grafting, recovery may take a little longer. It’s also common to have a degree of bruising in the first couple of weeks after surgery.
Getting Used to Your New Smile
Whether you’re transitioning from dentures or replacing natural teeth, your new teeth may feel a bit different at first — especially while speaking or eating. This is completely normal, and your mouth typically adjusts within a few weeks.
All-on-4® bridges are easy to maintain, and with proper care, they can last decades. In fact, studies show a 98% success rate over 10 years for All-on-4® implants.* Wondering if you’re a candidate? Call us on 1300 108 133.

Appearance: Will My New Teeth Look Natural?
Absolutely. Your All-on-4® bridge is custom-designed to look just like healthy, natural teeth. See our before and after photos to get an idea of how All-on-4® implants have helped to restore the smiles of our clients.
Custom Design
You’ll meet with your dentist and dental technician to choose the tooth size, shape and shade that best suits your face and smile. Your bridge is made from high-quality materials like acrylic, porcelain or zirconia for a natural finish.
Within a day or two of surgery, you’ll try a wax-up of your new teeth to check the fit and appearance. Once you’re happy, we’ll make any final adjustments before your permanent bridge is fitted by Day 5.
Fixing Gaps Between Gums and Bridge
After surgery, it’s normal for your jawbone to shrink slightly during healing. This can sometimes create a small space between the bridge and gum. It’s not usually noticeable, but if it traps food or affects speech, let your dentist know and they can fill the gap with acrylic during your follow-up visit.
Functionality: Do They Feel Like Real Teeth?
High-end dentures can look realistic, but how teeth feel and function makes all the difference.
Balanced Bite & Chewing
A balanced bite is everything – the way your teeth meet (your bite) affects how comfortable and functional they feel. We ensure your implants and bridge are placed with precision so that your bite feels natural and balanced.
All-on-4® implants improve your biting force (how strong your bite is) compared to dentures, allowing you to chew and break down a wider range of foods — including crunchy and chewy ones.
Difference from natural teeth
If you’re replacing natural teeth, the main thing you might notice is the lack of sensory feedback. That’s because implants don’t have nerves like real tooth roots. But most patients adjust quickly and barely notice the change after the healing phase.
Difference from dentures
If you’re moving from dentures to implants, the difference is night and day. You’ll notice:
- More strength and chewing power
- No slipping, clicking or adhesives
- A more secure, natural feel
Chewing Efficiency: Implants vs Dentures
Let’s compare how well these options really perform when it comes to eating.
Teeth / Prosthesis | Chewing Efficiency |
Healthy natural teeth | 100% |
Implant bridge | ~90% |
Implant-retained denture | ~60% |
Suction dentures | 10–30% |
With All-on-4®, you can eat most foods without restriction.

Speaking with Your New Teeth
Within a few weeks, your speech patterns should return to normal. Since the bridge is fixed in place, your tongue is able to form sounds properly — unlike with removable dentures, which can move or shift. Your dentist may recommend simple speech exercises to help you adapt more quickly.
From Dentures or Natural Teeth: What’s the Transition Like?
From Dentures
All-on-4® implants offer a significant improvement in function and comfort compared to conventional dentures. They’re fixed in place, more stable, and don’t need special adhesives or care routines. Best of all, they help maintain your facial structure by supporting the jawbone — reducing that “sunken-in” look some denture wearers experience.
From Natural Teeth
If you’re replacing natural teeth, there is a period of adjustment and it’s important to prepare yourself that nothing will feel exactly the same as your natural teeth. But compared to other prosthetic options, All-on-4® comes closest to feeling like the real thing — and the transition tends to be smoother and shorter than with dentures.
No matter your starting point, we’ll guide you through every step with expert care and compassion.
Hear From Our Patients
“This is the best dental experience I have ever had and I am terrified of going usually. From the removal of the old teeth to getting my All-on-4® teeth, the team have been so compassionate and kind. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you have had problems in the past, this is the place for you.” – Julia McMath
“I have been dental phobic for years, and my teeth were in desperate need of help. I went for the All-on-4®, top and bottom. From my very first appointment, I felt at ease. When the time came for my procedure, everything went smoother than I could have ever imagined. On a Tuesday, I had all my teeth removed, my jawbone levelled, and by Friday, my permanent teeth were in place. The most incredible part? I had no pain. Even now, I haven’t had a single issue. I can’t express my gratitude enough, not just for my smile, but for my confidence.” – Henna Bee
